(Movie Review ‘ Gantumoote’)
Gantumoote is a movie directed by Roopa Rao. This movie
is about the nostalgia of a teenage girl named Meera. In this story, we know
that cinema is what keeps her spirit alive. This
is a flashback story of a teenager finding his first love in school and
becoming acquainted with what love means. This movie is not only about the
romance of a pair of teenagers, but also talk about how teenagers lived when
they were still studying. In this movie, it is told how a student struggles to
take their education.
The impact of movie in my life is
very big. Each movie has its own meaning. Of course, some films have a deep
meaning. This meaning, is very influential on the life I am living. With the
problems in the movie, I can take existing lessons. From the movie I can also
add to the knowledge that I have.
The love story issue in this movie draws my attention
the most, because it is rare for a love story to end in such a tragic way. The
struggle of a Meera’s also really caught my attention, how did she balance the
education she was living with her relationship. In my opinion, the character of
Meera really represent girls represent girl real life struggles in terms of
education, friendship, relationships, even the issues raised in this movie.
The movie patriarchy system in India similar with our
social system in Indonesia. Because man regarded as a power-holder in social
status and has supreme power in the family. So, all the women in family must
obey what the man says.
Meera becomes a big fan of Salman Khan, after watching
his movies in cinema. She always writing letters to Salman Khan and hoping she
will become the mother of his child. Then, she feels that one of his classmates
named Madhusudhan looks like her favorite actor that is Salman Khan. The
character of Madhu is very related with the teenager in real life. Like the
delinquencies that exist in teenage boys in general. Like how he seduces, gets
angry, quarrels, or forces his will.
They falling in love when their eyes meet. Then, their
relationship engaging in first kiss, first hug, and the first touch. Until
finally Madhu's life becomes difficult. His education failed. From here we can
see Meera's struggle to make her partner rise again even though their love
story doesn't end beautifully.
Director Roopa Rao has packed the entire storyline
very well. She also gave an unexpected ending. This
story fits very well with the problems of today's youth. The movie has a lot of special effects like the way they
recorded the scenes very well, choose a very beautiful setting, and they put
some music in some movie scenes. The actors and artist in this movie act out
the scene perfectly, she made this movie very real. They engulfed the audience
with the stories they told, and she did not bore the audience because they
acted out the scenes with passion.
Even
though this film comes from India, this film not only uses Indian in all film
scenes, but they also use English in some scenes. Because
in this film played by mostly Indians and some other people from other
countries, the accent they have when speaking English is a little different
from native westerners. What I mean is, their pronunciation is correct, but
they use it with an accent from their country.
The
moral massage from this movie is every problem we can solve if we have the
intention and effort to get through it. If we have any big problems, ending
life is not the right way. From this movie we also understand that it is
important to understand and support our partners.
