Poetry is a type of literary work whose language style is largely determined by rhythm, rhyme, and line and verse arrangement. Without realizing it, Poetry can be used for language learning in the classroom. Poetry can liven up the atmosphere in the classroom because poetry has a variety of styles and topics, every student is sure to find a poem they like. There are many advantages that can be obtained by using poetry as language learning.

Through poetry students can add and get new vocabulary that they have never known. In article Benefits of Using Poetry in Language Learning explain that Poetry always have hidden meanings which are never expressed clearly, in order to grasp the original meaning the reader has to explore more and poetry triggers the unmotivated reader to find out what is inside (Wacnag Lidawan, 2018). When students read the poetry, there will be two possibilities that will happen. first, they will find out the meaning of the word. Second, they will also become familiar with the proper usage of the word. Satisfying both of these goals helps boost a person’s vocabulary.

Students also become more creative in using the vocabulary they have in the learning process. They can string the words they get through the poetry and form new sentence structures that are in their minds. They can freely pour everything on their mind with poetry, because sometimes poetry has its own meaning between the sentences written and the author. maybe some students are gifted at writing poetry, and poetry is one of the paths for them to success.

In addition, the learning process will be more interesting so that students do not become bored. In the article Why Poetry Is Useful for Language Learning (Doochin, 2014) said that it’s much easier to motivate yourself with a short poem every day than it is with a part of a 500-page behemoth of a book you dread opening because you fear you’ll never finish.
