Mental Health Education in School is Very Important
1
Mental health is a very interesting topic to discuss among teenagers. It is very important for those who are educated to learn about mental health today, to be aware of this problem. Another big reason why mental health awareness is important to have in schools is due to the high percentage of teen suicides (Larson.2020). Mental health is not only the absence of mental illness but also includes social, emotional, and behavioral health and the ability to cope with life's challenges. If not met, mental health problems are associated with costly negative outcomes such as academic and behavioral problems, dropping out of school, and delinquency.
In Joe Mclean article said that mental illness, particularly depression, is predicted to become one of the major health burdens in the future (Joe. 2020). Therefore it is important for us to get lessons about mental health problems in school. They need a system they can rely on and a source of information to guide them through the process of dealing with their inner issues (George. 2020). Mental health education to students early on, will make them more aware of the problems they will face in the future. In "The Importance Of Mental Health Awareness In Schools" Larson (2020) writes that the high percentage of adults suffering from mental illnesses stress the importance of educating children on mental health awareness in schools.
So, from this we know how important it is to learn mental health education from an early age. Can be seen from the existing evidence. Mental health problems can also cause serious damage to a person's life and well-being. By studying mental health education in schools, it can make students more alert to face the problems that will occur in their teenage years. Schools need to initiate change and provide mental health education to students. Because as we know students spend part of their time in a day at school, this can be used as a way for students to be alert to mental illness and understand how to maintain mental health.

Thank you Arinaa for this article review, it is very informative, I always excited to read in your blog!!
ReplyDeleteThank you dear! Hope you enjoy this!
DeleteYes, I agree that education about mental health is essential and must be taught early. We must also realize this because we are prospective educators in the future hehe. I love your writing! I'm waiting for the next one!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Brigita!
DeleteThank you, Arinaa. I agree with you about mental awareness must have from an early age. Since mental health can affect many aspects of life, especially for children who are still studying at school. Great article. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your very kind comment Dias!
DeleteThank you Arinaa! I hope after the students' aware of the problem they're going to face, they can be more careful in making decision, thank youu!!
ReplyDeleteSure Lydia, I also expect the same as you! Thank you!
DeleteHi, Arinaa! It's me again hehehe :) In your writing, you mentioned that "they need a system they can rely on and a source of information to guide them through the process of dealing with their inner issues." What kind of system is it, and how do you think it helps solve this issue? Thank you!
ReplyDeleteHello Brigita! Nice to see you again. The system I mean here is that schools may be able to make mental health one of the lessons in school. Then for the source of information itself, material on mental health should not only be used as a lesson in school but maybe it can be used as a work of information on display in school information wall, from there at least students indirectly get knowledge about mental health. With this, at least we try to make students get knowledge about mental health even though indirectly. Thank you for asking Brigita!
DeleteThank you, Arina! This really answers my question :) I hope that system could be implemented in Indonesia :) Good job! Have a nice day, Arinaa !!
DeleteI'm also expecting the same thing, let's both wait for it to happen! Have a good day for you too!
DeleteHello Arinaa, I'm here again😁 After I read your blog, I would like to ask you something. Could you give me an example of how teachers can implement mental health education in school? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteHi DIas! Great question. Maybe teachers don't have to make mental health education routinely in schools. They can give this lesson at least once a week. Or it could be by including knowledge about mental health on school information wall, so students can get these lessons indirectly. Thank you!
DeleteThank you Arinaa for giving me an answer! Hopefully we as prospective teachers will be able to apply it in our future class. Have a nice day! :)
DeleteSure Dias! Thank you!
DeleteHi Arina! I do agree school need to initiate change for student's mental health. But you mention about school also need to provide mental health education for students, can you give an example of what facilities the school provides for student's mental health ? and why did you choose that reason?
ReplyDeleteHello Lydia! Thank you for the question. Often times we meet students who feel depressed about something, whether it's at home or at school. Therefore, several schools provide extracurricular activities to channel students' hobbies. With this, students can refresh their minds. Hope this answer your question!
DeleteYess! Extracurricular activities should do. Thank you for answering my question Arina. have a good day!
DeleteHello Arinaa! It's written on your blog that it is important to learn mental health education from an early age. As we know that the early age students are still need more intensive guidance, can you give me example the method and how to teach the importance of mental health in education especially for the early age student? Thank you Arinaa :)
ReplyDeleteHi Jihan! Nice to see you here, in my blog. In teaching about mental health, we can not only get it through school but also at home. It is important for parents to impart this knowledge to their children at an early age. In applying the methods and methods of teaching it at school, maybe we can use methods through video media or interesting presentations, so that later students are also more comfortable and don't get bored easily. Thank you for asking Jihan!
